We each have over a decade of experience in a combination of DJing, MCing, and AV Production. However, technical experience is only a small part of what sets us apart.
In addition to loving music and full dance floors, we love collaborating, learning, and making real connections. We'd love to connect with you and find out if we'd be a good fit for your wedding. Keep reading to get to know a little more about us.
Megan Phillips
Owner, DJ, MC, Swiftie
Hello! My name is Megan, and I am the sophisticated half of the Sophisticated Whimsy team.
From a technical perspective, I started working in production early (as all theatre kids do), and that is the basis of my skill set. I have a plethora of production knowledge alongside several years of DJ experience, coupled with a knack for speaking. While I’ve worked a number of different events, weddings will always be my favorite.
From there, in the words of Matty Healy, “I'm happiest when I'm doing something that I know is good. That's happiness for me.” When I’m not handling the day-to-day business of SoWhim, you can find me in a classroom teaching English to a myriad of students.
As someone who suffers from crippling nostalgia, I love incredible experiences; concerts happen to be my favorite. I’ve been attending concerts since my parents realized I loved Gary Allan when I was in elementary school. I’ve been hooked ever since. Some of my favorite concert experiences include Sleep Token, Bad Omens, Bring Me The Horizon, The 1975, and Taylor Swift.
My favorite Pokémon is Mimikyu, we have a tuxedo cat named Bootsie (he’s the best), and I can’t wait to meet you!
Arley Hendrick

Hi! 👋 I'm Arley, and I'm Megan's whimsical counterpart.
I've been a DJ since 2012, when I accidentally stumbled into a weekly DJ residency at a small club in my hometown. I spent every weekend learning to mix music and read crowds, and it was everything I wanted out of DJing for several years. Since those days, I've gotten to DJ for tiny bar crowds and festivals with thousands of people, but I prefer weddings because I enjoy being a little part of a big story.
When I'm not working on SoWhim, I'm usually hanging out with Megan or piddling around the house while listening to an audiobook. I love a game night or a little adventure. I'll drop everything and drive to Michigan at a moment's notice for a concert. (We actually did this; it was days before Thanksgiving, 15 hours, and we drove back immediately. It was a 10/10 experience that my sleep schedule will never recover from.)
My favorite Pokémon is Gengar, we have a tuxedo cat named Bootsie (he's a little gremlin that likes breakfast at 4 AM), and I can't wait to meet you!
